This is where the strength of the physician lies, be he a quack, a
homeopath, or an allopath. He supplies the perennial demand
for comfort, the craving for sympathy that every human sufferer
feels.

— Count Leo Tolstoy
War and Peace

Michal Amir

Michael Appel

"When the tides of life go against you,

and the current upsets your boat,

don't waste those tears on what should have been,

just lie on your back and float."

Michael Argenziano

Keith Attkiss

*"From the brain only, arise our pleasures, joys, laughter, and jests, as
well as our sorrow, pain, griefs, and tears . . . It is the same thing which
makes us mad or fear, whether by night or by day, brings sleeplessness,
inopportune mistakes, aimless anxieties, absent-mindedness, and acts
that are contrary to habit. These things that we suffer all come from the
brain, when it is not healthy, but becomes abnormally hot, cold, moist,
or dry. I hold that the brain is the most powerful organ of the human
body."

— Hippocrates [4607-377? B.C.]
*"As long as our brain is a mystery, the universe, the reflection of the
structure of the brain, will also be a mystery."
* ' 'The human brain is a world consisting of a number of explored con-
tinents and great stretches of unknown territory."

— Santiago Ramon y Cajal [1852-1934]

Honour a physician with the honor due unto him for the uses which ye may have of him:
for the Lord hath created him. For of the most high cometh healing, and he shall receive
honour of the king. The skill of the physician shall lift up his head; and in the sight of
great men he shall be in admiration.

— Apocrypha: Ecclesiasticus, 28, 1-3

I shall pass through this world but once. Any good, therefore, that I can do, or any
kindness that I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now. Let me not defer nor
neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.

Two crazy Italians named Anthony in one class?!?
Geez, Dr. Frantz sure has a lot of guts!

Quotes to Remember
J. Flamm: So you say that you're looking for a roommate? I know this guy who's
neat, reliable, punctual, and very good at managing bills. His name? Oh. ugh, Prak
Sampath.

A.C.: Well let's see Prak. that makes it personal disaster #32 for Apt. 1 1-B. Should
we paint the apartment walls purple or black for this episode of mourning?
P.S.: Fast car. large dog . . . no really, it's the research opportunities that attract me

"'I should believe only in a God who
understood how to dance.

And when I beheld my devil, I found him
serious, thorough, profound, solemn; it was the
spirit of Gravity — through him all things are
rained.

One does not kill by anger but by laughter.
Come, let us kill the Spirit of Gravity!

I have learned to walk: since then I have run.
I have learned to fly: since then I do not have
to be pushed in order to move.

Now I am nimble, now I fly, now I see
myself beneath myself, now a god dances
within me."

The world stands out on either side
No wider than the heart is wide;
Above the world is stretched the sky, —
No higher than the soul is high.
The heart can push the sea and land
Farther away on either hand;
The soul can split the sky in two,
And let the face of God shine through

Jordan M. Symons

He crossed the hall. Chilled air
streamed in through an open
window. Chance pushed the heavy
glass door open and stepped out
into the garden. Taut branches
laden with fresh shoots, slender
stems with tiny sprouting buds shot
upward. The garden lay calm, still
sunk in repose. Wisps of clouds
floated by and left the moon
polished. Now and then, boughs
rustled and gently shook off their
drops of water. A breeze fell upon
the foliage and nestled under the
cover of its moist leaves. Not a
thought lifted itself from Chance's
brain. Peace filled his chest.

The Road goes ever on and on

Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone.

And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,

Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.

And whither then? I cannot say.
